Speaker 1 0: Are you wanting more than the daily grind? Me too. Welcome to the Emma Lovell show, a place where we talk about living a life you love now, I'm your host, Emma Lovell, and my number one value is freedom. I've spent the last 14 years running a business and travelling the world. And now I take my husband and toddler along for the adventure to it's possible and I know you can create a life doing what you truly love as well. This podcast will inspire, motivate and encourage you to go after your dreams to create a life you love and to live it now not wait for retirement or someday in the future. I'll be sharing episodes weekly about how I harmonise business travel and self care. I'll also bring on incredible guests to share their journeys, the wins the challenges, and how they're creating a life they love. Let's jump in and get dreaming. This is a space for you to manifest a life you love. I would like to acknowledge and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first peoples of this place now known as Australia. I am grateful for the continuing care of the land waterways and skies where I work live. Listen, learn and play. From here on you can bear country and from wherever you are listening, I pay my respects to the elders past and present

Speaker 1 1: 25

Speaker 1 1: lovely one welcome to today's episode we are going to be talking about travel. It's my favourite topic. It is my favourite topic. It's my hair travelling the world. I love talking about business. I love talking about self care. But honestly, travel is my number one, I could talk about it too I'm blue in the face. There's no way in the world I can get through all the travel topics in this episode. So I want to give you an overview of where travel fits into my business and my life and my world. I've given myself a little timer set eight minutes. So I'm going to give you a very abridged version. And we are going to dig so deep into this topic and I really really want to hear from you what do you want to know about travel? What do you want to know about how I work and travel? How I manage to travel so much how I have been to so many countries 65 Why I like travel. What airlines I want to travel frequent flyer points accommodation, earning money while you travel. Doing travel as a job. What else travelling with children travelling and working and having a child? I can talk about all of it. So yes, I have been travelling since I mean look, I say travelling I mean overseas travel. But I travel in Australia too. I have been travelling since I was two years old. My parents are from the UK. So I have a British passport. I was born in Australia. And in order to see our family we had to go overseas. So travels not really like you know it's not like a bug hate that when people say he's travelled with the travel bug. I'll do an episode on that actually remind me please. travel bug. I don't have a travel bug travel is what is part of me. I am a traveller at heart. And I live for it. And I love it. And it's my number one and if I can't do it. Yeah, I don't want to work and not working. It's the goal. So as a family we travelled overseas when I was kids, we travelled in a little bit in Australia. My dad worked for an international freight company. So he was at two international conferences a year and travelled regularly for work. And then yeah, I had this goal when I was nine to one to finish high school to travel the world for you to go and see my family in the UK and travel the world. Some people didn't believe I'd do it, but I did. So I did a gap year when I was 18. I lived in London. I went to India on the way went to Malaysia to see my dad for a conference in the middle and then I went to about 13 countries in Europe. It was incredible. I nearly didn't come home. But I did want to do my university degree. So that's why I came home. The following year, I did a season in Canada in big white, which was incredible. So I've lived in the UK, Australia, Canada and Mexico. I did a semester a six month well ended up being four and a half months because swine flu happened then I had to leave. I didn't have to leave I chose to leave and not get trapped in Mexico with the potential there was an epidemic was borderline pandemic. So I chose to leave and but I lived there and I learned Spanish blue Abloh and poquito Espanol. What all gobler pero necesito practica I need to practice so I will not do this episode in Spanish but I can speak it to a pretty good level. So yeah and then your during uni I travelled as much as I could I use the, you know, go away for like two or three months over the, we had a lot of time. You pay a lot of money, but you don't have to be there a lot. It's pretty crazy. So during that time I travelled as well. And then I moved to Melbourne. So I grew up in Sydney, but I moved to Melbourne and yeah, continued to travel and actually started doing Adventures in 2011. So I took on my first big charity challenge, and I went and trekked Mount Kilimanjaro, the largest freestanding mountain in the world. And yeah, I did that to raise money for Alzheimer's because my grandpa passed away without timers. And I was hooked after that. So I've since done about, say about 12 or 13. I've listed them on my website and been to all these amazing adventures in Nepal, Peru, trekking to Machu Picchu, cycling Cambodia, and Vietnam, tracking the Great Wall of China. And I'm speaking very fast to tell you all the things. So yeah, that's all talking about like sort of, I guess, travel where I go and do things. But the way that I used to kind of do it earlier in my business was that I would work work, work, work, work, go away, work, work, work, work, work go away. But in 2012 I had copywriting clients and social media clients. And so I went to India for two and a half months. And I travelled around all around India, and I was able to work and make money. And I have this very vivid vivid memory of it was Holi festival, which is incredible. It's the festival I use for the colours that each other and but I had a deadline. And so, you know, I chose to sacrifice a bit of time at the festival to get this article finished, to send it off to the client. And then I am good to go and enjoy Holly festivals. So I was then kind of I couldn't make as much money at that time travelling as I couldn't home but I could offset the cost a lot. And I didn't have to stop my business

Speaker 2 7: was someone that will hound you until you do the things that you need to do and absolutely stand there and support you 100% It is no doubt in my mind that it is Miss Emma Lovell.

Speaker 3 7: 21

Speaker 3 7: Anyone that has him in the corner does better. She'll be your biggest cheerleader, whatever she touches and creates is just magical

Speaker 4 7: 31

Speaker 4 7: things about em. She is extremely generous with her knowledge and expertise. And the second thing is that she will hold you accountable long after your impersonal experience, which is great if you're not working with them. What the hell are you doing?

Speaker 1 7: 48

Speaker 1 7: In 2017, I chose to have a holiday with my now husband then partner, Matthew for three and a half weeks in India. I love India I've been there the whole time. But I sort of tried that trip to not work and but the way I did it then was a bit feast or famine II so I ended up with ended all my client work ended up all of my communications clients or social media marketing copywriting clients, I said, I'm not working with you anymore finished projects done, I'm leaving, came back and had to start again. So that was not ideal either. Even though I trusted, that's what I wanted to go, I wanted to go over the free ahead, I did start to get anxious about where's the money going to come from. So now the way I run my business as a coach, speaker, writer, offering, I've got coaching one on one, they do calls do that, you know, one off sessions or programmes I do speaking, I've done it domestically. And the goal is to do that internationally as well. I say that I have emceed a conference in India. So I have an international speaker. Yeah. And then also continuing the writing and picking up that travel writing, lifestyle writing, again, opinion writing. Because yeah, I really enjoy that. But also I have courses and I offer retreats. So I'm running a retreat in India, in November 2023 in November, and you know, I'm going to earn money whilst there, I'm going to earn money from that. And the goal now is to see how much money I can make whilst I'm away whilst working, you know, minimally, and one of the best trips I did. Matthew and I, my, my now husband, wife, boyfriend, then in 2018. We did a seven week trip and I had some times where I took off. And then I think three or four days a week, I would work for three or four hours a day, subcontracting to one of my clients and also keeping some of my content writing clients going and it worked so well just especially in Rome. I was waking up at six or seven in the morning working for a few hours, said to him go and have time Myself, I'm just going to work, I really enjoy my work. So it's nice to switch, switch into work mode and focus. And then we'd enjoy the rest of the day in fabulous Italy. There's many ways to work and travel, there's many ways to just work, make a lot of money, then go travelling. There's so many different options in the other way that I have done a lot of travel is that I accept the kindness of people, and I go and stay with people. So when I said I stayed in, I travel around 13 countries in Europe, the countries I chose were people where I knew someone and where it could visit someone predominantly, and stay with them and get to see the country through their eyes. You know, I've been to Germany more than 10 times because I go and visit my amazing friend Darius and, you know, Francie, and Christoph, you know, I go and see them, my friend Deborah, I used to visit her in Nonnberg. And, you know, they're so kind. I've been to the US, maybe 15 times plus. And sometimes like literally one trip, I made money going because my wonderful cousin who's 100 that's a story for another day is my grandma's cousin. Yeah, he gave me money when I went to visit him as a gift. And so I actually ended up making money from being there because I spend hardly anything, I'm very generous, amazing friends and family who take care of me, just as I would do the same for them. So you know, there's things to think about with how you can offset the cost of travel by working while your way or by minimising the cost and doing things in kind of a clever way. I'm not even going to touch on my love my new love. I wasn't into it up until maybe 12 months ago, but now I'm obsessed with frequent flyer points and loyalty programmes. So that's an episode of itself but I hope this has given you an insight into the amount of travel I've done as I said early on 65 countries I've visited I have an entire podcast if you want to just hear about travel dedicated to this it's called Lovely travels. And it is still there it's got a seven episodes and at some point we will jump on and do some more but I'll be definitely sharing more and more travel tales and and ways that I've made it work and specific examples. If that helps you to bring more travel into your life. I would love that my goal is to work maximum 40 weeks a year. I mean, I guess probably to be home for two weeks a year so to be travelling 12 weeks of the year. You know that might be two days here three days there or it could be a couple months at a time or it could be three trips or four weeks I don't know but you know the thing is well as that I can sort of stay in touch and in you know I don't have to like close my business to do that. So are so much to explore. I'm so excited love sharing this topic with you. So let me know your questions about travel what topics you want to hear about I will cater to you my lovely audience, and I can't wait to keep sharing with you. Come and find me.
