Emma, do you want to live a life of freedom and adventure? Are you wanting more than the daily grind? Me too. Welcome to the Emma Lovell, show a place where we talk about living a life you love. Now I'm your host, Emma Lovell, and my number one value is freedom. I've spent the last 14 years running a business and traveling the world, and now I take my husband and toddler along for the adventure too. It's possible, and I know you can create a life doing what you truly love as well. This podcast will inspire, motivate and encourage you to go after your dreams, to create a life you love and to live it now, not wait for a time and or someday in the future, I'll be sharing episodes weekly about how I harmonize business travel and self care. I'll also bring on incredible guests to share their journeys, the wins, the challenges, and how they're creating a life they love. Let's jump in and get dreaming. This is a space for you to manifest a life you love.

01:03

I would like to acknowledge and recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first peoples of this place, now known as Australia. I am grateful for the continuing care of the land, waterways and skies where I work, live, listen, learn and play from here on, you can bear country and from wherever you are listening. I pay my respects to the elders past and present. Welcome to the podcast today. I am your host, Emma Lovell and you are here on the Emma Lovell show, in case you have just popped up on another episode and you've been listening to other things and it's just come up in your playlist. Welcome. Welcome. This is a show all about living a life you love by harmonizing business travel and self care. I am the pleasure coach. That's what I do. Help people to combine those things, and I lead by example, get setting, running my business and also taking care of myself, because that's important too. Today's episode is called I am so in case you didn't see it, and with the title, or you saw it, I went, what? Because it's, I am.dot.so,

02:05

obviously we're going to fill in the blanks, but actually, what I wanted to share with you today is an exercise that I use on a lot of my retreats. I use it with my coaching clients. I use it in my daily practice of journaling. And it's this wonderful, simple prompt that actually is so powerful it's also a really powerful statement, I am, and it's something that can be used to help you with your goals. So instead of saying, I want to I wish, I hope one day, someday in the future, if you say I am, even if it's I am doing it, then it becomes active and it becomes about now. It's not one day or in the future, or I was, or what I'm thinking, it's it is. And that's really important for manifesting and for creating the life that you want and asking for what you want is to become that person that you want to be. So we're becoming that future self. There's a brilliant book I just read little bit of looks quite deep, but it's called, be your future self now, that's by Dr Benjamin Hardy, and there's some wonderful exercises in there as well, one of which I've used, which is like a letter to your future self. And in that you write as if it's already done. So you're writing for future self and saying, I you've done this, or I've done this, and I've done that, and I achieved this, and then you sort of come across the letter in a year or couple years time, like a time capsule, and see if it came true. But you know, you're in setting that intention, and then you you go towards that. So that's what the I am can do. Now, the way that I use this exercise, it's quite simple. I'm not going to to I'm going to give you the prompts and allow you to go off and do it, because otherwise I'd have to sit here for five minutes quietly, and that's not really favorable for a podcast. So the prompt that you would write in your journal, and I do recommend handwriting, is I am. Then you'll set a timer for five minutes and choose some music. Or you can have quiet but I tend to choose some instrumental music. I can put a playlist, my retreat playlist, if you like, in the play in the

04:13

Actually, no, I'll do my journal prompts. So for the pleasure life, we have journal prompts. You can actually head to my website. There's a wonderful opt in. We can put that in the show notes as well as you can get my journal prompts, and this is one of those prompts. So that's a great thing to do, actually. If you go to Emma lovell.au on the home page, you'll see the journal prompt opt in, so you just add your name and your email, and you'll get all of those prompts, including this one. I'm going to run through a few others on this podcast at a later date as well. So grab that journal, write I am, set the timer, put music on, and then write. And the way that it comes out is it could come out. I tend to write it as I am, I am, I am, I am. Some people write I am, and then it just flows, and it becomes paragraphs and sentences and it goes somewhere else.

05:00

Sometimes it starts. It tends to start with my clients. I say like I'm tired. I am doing this. I'm writing this because Emma told me to I am not sure what to say. I am.

05:13

I don't know frustrated I am. I'm not sure what's happening. I don't know. It just sort of is like whatever's happening in that moment. And tired is not a feeling, by the way, tired is a state of being. And, you know, it's kind of boring. So let's move past that. But it's, it's just whatever's there. So what we try to do is clear, and that's all the front stuff, and then as you continue to write, you'll sort of get to the other parts of your brain or and other parts of your body, and also what's in your heart. And so, you know, mine tend to be end up as like, I'm trying. I'm giving things a go. I am achieving things. I am doing well. I am an author, I am a speaker. I am changing lives with my retreats. And like ends up signing off like you can do it. So sometimes it's just a way to, like, almost give myself a motivational speech. But also, what I find is this is sometimes people, if you just allow it to do what it's meant to do, which is to the pen and the paper. You know, the pen to the paper, just let whatever comes comes, but it might tell you things that you didn't know. Were there dreams or aspirations that you didn't know. Were there desires that you didn't know? Were there wishes that you didn't know were there? And then to write them in that way I am, you know, and it was scary for me to write I'm an author, I'm a published author, because I wanted to write that for so long. So when it didn't feel true, I wrote it. I wrote it to practice it, and I knew that one day it would be true, and it now is, but I would write. I am an aspiring author, or I'm a budding author, or I'm a writer. In my heart, I am a writer, and I love writing, and I have done for many years and journaling. I love writing like that. I love journaling. I love putting pen to paper.

07:00

It's funny I say that I'm writing my second book at this stage, but I'm not doing a lot of writing. I'm doing a lot of gathering at this stage, but that's part of the writing process as well. A lot of thinking, a lot of dreaming, a lot of talking, and then I sit and I write, and I write furiously,

07:15

but practicing each day writing, and I do that through journaling. And sometimes that could lead to something in the book that could lead to an idea. Sometimes, when people do this, the way that they write about themselves, ends up being like a like a bio. Sometimes I give a little bit more guidance on that so you could write your I Am statements and they could be I am confident. I am inspiring. I am strong. I am giving things that go I am learning I am challenging the status quo. I am picking myself up and moving on. Whatever it is that comes up for you, but they might also then write things like the way that it comes out, it ends up being the way to describe themselves. And so I say, let's try and do it without saying I'm a mum and I'm a job title, and I'm a sister and I'm a wife and I'm a all the list of roles and titles like, try to write it. I'm not. I'm a fur baby mama or whatever.

08:12

Take all those away

08:14

and see what comes and it's like, oh, could be a bit restrictive, but then you have to get a bit creative. And then, you know, people just write the most beautiful things. And I really have got out of this some wonderful, wonderful lessons, some wonderful, wonderful

08:29

dreams that have come down. But as a simple exercise, it just clears my head, makes me feel a little bit better, get any of those feelings out onto the page, and then I can move on with the day, and if I continue to feel inspired by what I've started to write, I keep writing. Or I can take that into my book and go, Oh, that's a great sentence. That's a great idea. Okay, let me just keep writing on that. So the power of the I am statement, as I said, is and these are can become affirmations. So the ones that you like pull them out, if the ones you don't leave them alone, but you could take all those positive affirmations and write them some way that you can see them. I have on my my wall

09:11

and near my door and in my bathroom mirror. I am calm. I also have I am enough as a sticker, because I need to be reminded of that every day, my God, my word this year is calm, and I want to be calm and I am calm, you know, but to see the difference of I want to be as opposed to I am. And it's like I am calm, and instantly, if I'm not calm, I think, well, that's I've gotta make myself calm. Then, okay, how can I be calm? What helps me be calm, and I can simply take a few breaths,

09:45

okay, I feel a bit calmer. You know, if it's I am strong, well, what does a strong person do? They would go to the gym, or they would stand up for themselves, or they would believe in what they say, or they would back their their business.

10:00

Um, what would a courageous person do? They would try something new, you know. So this gives you then, if you're like, Well, if that's what I say, I am, if I'm inspiring, I'm going to go out there inspire people. If I'm in if I'm a coach, I'm going to coach people. If I'm an author, I'm going to write books. And if you become what you say. So like I said, at first, you might not believe it. It might sound a bit like Oh, but the more you say it, the more you read it, the more you say it, the more you write it, the more you believe it, then you can be it, I am. So therefore I am, I am, I am, what I say I am. And no one has ever argued with you. Have you walked up to someone and said, I'm a this, whatever your job is. Oh, I'm a mum. No one says, Are you a mum or I am a speaker? Are you a speaker? Like, are you an author? No one has ever questioned if you tell them you're an inspiring,

10:56

I don't know, inspiring astrologist who changes people's lives. By the way you read the stars, I'd be like, Well, that's pretty amazing. Well done. You. You know whatever you say is true, but you have to believe it, so they can believe it too. And if you don't say it, they're not going to hear it, not going to believe it. So please

11:16

practice this exercise. I'd love to see where it takes you. It might be just great to clear your head. It might give you some beautiful statements about yourself that give you a bit of confidence, a bit of self belief. It might give you some new ideas that you can take into your work, into your business, into creativity, and it might give you these beautiful confirmations or goals for yourself to work towards. So for now, let's just choose one for today, choose an I am statement, say it out loud,

11:44

I am. And for me, I'm

11:46

going to I'm going to practice what I preach. I'm going to say what the one before. I'm going to take it into the rest of my day. I am calm.

11:55

I am calm.

11:57

I have, actually, for a long time, wanted to do an audio on this so with a bunch of statements, so that you can pull out which ones work for you. And you know, in lieu of not knowing what to write or feeling a bit stuck, then you could lean on this audio to kind of set you up for the day. Choose you will naturally just hear more of them, or some of them that then you can take into the future. So I will definitely get to that. I promise. I've said it out loud now. So please be following me up. I am Emma. I am your host. I'm a podcast host, and I am very happy that you are here. Please do stay connected, of course, rate rate, review and subscribe if you liked this episode and you'd like some more of these types of exercises to see, I guess, into the world of how I do my coaching, what happens on retreats,

We'll pop that show the link to the journal prompts in the show notes, so that you can head on over, get your copy and start this practice and find a way that works for you. Five minutes, music, write the prompt the top I am, and just keep writing, keep writing, writing, writing. And whatever comes, that's what comes, and that's what needed to come that day.
