01: 52
01: this year. So in February 2024. But Christine is just an amazing woman. I've loved seeing her journey over the past three years since we've been working together. 02: 58
02: Welcome to the podcast Christine Cancun.
03: 02
03: Oh, Christine Konkona.
03: 06
03: I'm sorry.
03: 07
03: Well, we should start with telling. What does that mean? Username, what does it mean?
03: 14
03: It means the hangover in finish.
03: 19
03: There you go. No wonder how you pronounce it.
03: 24
03: So it's so wonderful to have you today. It's been a long time coming. We've been working together for a while. And I wanted to have you on my last podcast and we just didn't get around to it. So you know, at seven episodes later, and here we are. So it's a pleasure to have you. I'm going to jump straight in and say you know, you're looking gorgeous with this fabulous outfit you have on that we got in India, because we have from India, November, November. It seems a bit like when you say oh yeah, last year, November, it was only a couple of months ago. So it's still quite fresh in my mind. And yes, wearing an app from from India channeling the vibes. Loved it. Amazing. And so thank you thankful to have
04: 08
04: to have me on the podcast. Thank you. Yes, that you know, that was incredible. And so is the restaurant receive India retreat that you said yes to which is phenomenal. wasn't the first time we worked together for what made you say yes to that. I mean, it's kind of a big jump from you know, doing some program work together. Yes.
04: 28
04: India, I guess we have already been trading. So I own a freight forwarding company, and a lot of our clients import and export. So we handle all the logistics of of, of the goods. So we kind of wanted to build on the India, Australia trade line.
04: 45
04: And so when you had posted your first overseas rest and retreat, rest and receiver trade, it was just a no brainer to jump on board. It was also a time I needed some space from from the company into effect.
05: 00
05: So myself, so it kind of tied into both aspects of of, of the two things I wanted to achieve. Amazing. I loved it, I loved how you embraced it all, it was amazing to see. And so much. So I'm gonna jump forward and then we'll jump back so much. Oh, that you just turned around and sent. I don't know, maybe I'll just run my own retreat in India.
05: 23
05: Yes. Um,
05: 26
05: so I'm currently in the whirlwind of Yeah, organizing my own retreat. It's called Chi Frates. So connecting, you know, our customers, women in business women who are importing or women who are looking to import products, specifically, this time focusing on India,
05: 47
05: Indian Australia have a free trade agreement that came into place in 2022. So we kinda wanted to, yeah, grow that trade lane, as well as help women travel overseas. Join the international fair, that I HTFS.
06: 05
06: And yeah, so So stay manufacturers and suppliers directly. Enjoy all the cultural immersions that India provides. And yeah, having you on board on the first trip is going to be amazing. I mean, you've been there, what 13 times now. So
06: 24
06: very excited. Yeah. But I mean, it did come about pretty quick. I do remember last year, you know, when I was talking about the fact that I'm teaching people how to run retreats, he sort of said, Oh, I could run a retreat, I can, you know, do one for suppliers, like you know, and I love that I love that people can see how their industry could work with it. And yeah, anyone can run a retreat, as long as it's got the intention, and you understand why you're doing it. And it fits within your business model. I mean, also, you could just run a retreat because you want to, because it's a lovely thing to do to get people together. But you know, then we're on the plane back from India, on Singapore Airlines. And you start to ask them questions on that. Okay. Some questions and asked a few more. And we had a bit of a discussion. And then two days later after we got back here, like so here's the ferrets in February. Oh, oh, yeah. Now we're really doing this.
07: 22
07: I guess when you feel a passion for something, and when you know that it's going to be something amazing.
07: 29
07: You kind of just have to go with it. And like you said, we were on a six hour flight back from
07: 36
07: our India trip, it was the Singapore to Brisbane connection. And I couldn't sleep. And I was just like, hey,
07: 44
07: all these questions. And then yeah, two days later, I was like, Okay, I think I'm really doing this, if it feels right. It fits in with
07: 54
07: our strategy of, you know, sort of bringing women together in the industry, and then helping women source their own manufacturers and suppliers. So yeah, I know, international freight can be quite tricky and overwhelming. So I really wanted to focus on that aspect of making you know, those 10 days really special, connecting people together, and then fulfilling their brand vision as well by importing and exporting making it a bit simpler. Yes, yes. And look, I do have the Indian knowledge, so that, that he was having,
08: 32
08: I have an Indian travel partner who I'm Australian representative for so to be able to go to them and go, here's the itinerary. This is what we want to do. I mean, we had I think we had the quote and the itinerary back within a day. And, you know, was able to then put the package together and we launched it in a week and you had a sale in a day. Yeah, it was incredible. Absolutely incredible. I'm still, you know, living on a high from it all and super excited. I mean, it's less than, Oh, it's just over a month now that we are leaving. So yeah, super excited about it. And yeah, really looking forward to making a change and the things
09: 11
09: as well, like, you know, you run your business pivot freight solutions, but you know, that the other thing is
09: 18
09: we basically launched a whole nother arm as well out of these, you've launched this other enterprise, I guess, or
09: 27
09: subsidiary, or would you call it, I mean, she freights was born because of this. Absolutely, um, I've never really delved into, you know, multiple revenue streams or anything like that, for the last it'll be probably the last 10 years I've been
09: 45
09: heavily involved and immersed in everything to do with pivot freight solutions. So, you know, focusing on our processes, our customers, our branding, all of that.
09: 56
09: So when she freights came about, it was just
10: 00
10: One thing that was that I was super passionate about. And I was like, I see a lot of customers that will jump onto, you know, online platforms and do some trading, and maybe get burned by, you know, not receiving the right samples or the right designs or a lot of backwards and forwards a lot of money. I know money is really precious at the moment. So, you know, I just wanted to create something, it was 10 days out of somebody's year to be able to go overseas, meet the suppliers and
10: 31
10: manufacturers directly and by aligning with like trade shows and things like that, I thought it was a perfect idea to bring a group of women together travel, immersed in the culture, as well as tick their boxes of how they will find their products or their designs or their manufacturers and suppliers. So, yeah, it's on but like, I guess it was birthed through that. But, you know, she freights has been bubbling away for two years, right? More than that, um, I had to have a look yesterday, because I know I had said it for a while. And when I looked back, I had registered she freights domain in October 2021. Yeah, this was kind of off the back of some coaching calls with you when I joined heavily brandbuilders.
11: 23
11: So I think we'll have to go back a little bit further. I had joined business chicks Business Club. That's how we met.
11: 32
11: It was amazing. I think you were the first person that I didn't have to explain what a freight forwarder was. So I instantly went, but she's magic.
11: 43
11: She knows what I'm talking about. So that was really incredible. And I think since then, we've just, you know,
11: 50
11: just been great mates. And then yeah, I saw what you were doing with personal branding. I was very new to all of that.
11: 57
11: I'm, I'm a major introvert recently. I'm an extroverted introvert, if that makes any sense.
12: 07
12: So yeah, going back then she fruits. Yeah, it was registered. Yeah, a couple of years ago, I also created an Instagram, Instagram profile called chief rights. And it remained dormant until November last year, I kind of didn't know what I wanted to share or what to post. I just knew something big was coming. And I kind of just held on to that. That thread. And then yeah, being in India being on the rest and receive retreat, which is where a lot of creativity happens.
12: 40
12: Yeah, she writes, was, was born into this into this amazing retreat. Well, you know, and I think when Yeah, when I met, you've been going through a lot. And as everyone does, and that sort of when people come to me is, yeah, things. You'd lost yourself a little. I mean, you'd had children. Business. Yeah, you know, just life stuff. We were also in COVID, it was 2021. We were in COVID.
13: 07
13: You know, and we probably It probably helped the connection as well, that I had just had a child too. So yeah, that was something that really brought us together in that. But yeah, I remember you coming talking to me about the personal branding. But that takes time, that journey takes time. And I know that it's been a challenge for us to put yourself at the front of the business. And something that I always heard from you was like, you know, that it was about your team, as well. And you never wanted to just take the credit or something like that. But also, you wanted to give back to the industry. And it was like finding a way that you could give back to people and help people and sometimes within our businesses is, is not, I mean, you know, your job, you do help people, you help them move their goods from here to there. And you put them into it with ease. But that's not, you know, maybe that's not filling your cup enough. And then you know, then other ways to help would be education, or giving back or those sorts of things. And so I loved when we were we went and met a colleague of mine. So yeah, my father moved to Australia, from England because of the freight industry. So I'm in Australia, my whole entire family from England, because of the freight industry. So my dad's been in it since he was 25. My mom's worked in the freight industry. My brother, my sister was a receptionist at one point at one point. And then I worked in PR and marketing for the Australian Federation of freight forwarding at one point. We've all worked in at one point my entire family five members were in the industry. So it's just like I grew up with it. So yeah, I know the know the language and I know a lot of colleagues from around the world. And it's actually why I have a connection to India because I went to a conference with my dad for the Asia Pacific Air Cargo Association, which again is so we just said full circle before we came on you
15: 00
15: As you and I, after the sheath rights retreat are going to go to Mumbai to spend time with my my friend and colleague who is the son of my dad's colleague, who runs air cargo India, or he sold it, but he founded air cargo India. So we're going to a freight thing again. So it's like, I'm always still connected to this world, and in Delhi going to visit our wonderful friend, CK govil and air freight, they're active freight sorry, business, active air, active air, there we go.
15: 33
15: And then meeting his daughter, you know, it's just like, all things come together. And they run an NGO. And it was like, the cartridge after that meeting, that just the pennies all dropped. Yeah, my heart was set on fire. And I was just like, you know, these
15: 52
15: these are all the little dots that are connecting my lines to where, where we want to go or what we want to do in our business and how we can give back so absolutely so grateful to be where I am and to be helping other women, you know, travel and come come to India with us and then support this NGO and help other women and children learn skills to bring an income into their families, you know, a lot of families over there, especially after COVID aren't doing so well and need the skills and support to help them you know, with their family. So I'm really excited about all of that unfolding and, and can't wait to you know.
16: 33
16: Yeah, share, share the journey with everyone.
16: 37
16: Hey, lovely. I want to open the doors to incredible opportunities for you on an all inclusive luxury retreat exclusively for people who are ready to live a life they love. 17: 51
17: It's pretty magic, when you see that alignment happen. And there's I've been sitting in that myself, there's some times where you have an idea.
17: 58
17: You have something you know, it's something but it's just not there yet. And I know now after years of being in business to trust that, you know, it's okay, I don't have to act on the thing right now. It's like just let it bubble away. And then sometimes you meet a person or a number of people. And a few things come into alignment, you know, it would have been being in India finding an avenue for the gifts back element. But also, I think what I loved for you that we talked about was wasn't just about the industry, because you talked a lot about doing things for the industry and women in the industry and promoting more women being in the freight industry because it is typically male dominated. But then also to bring in that element of women who want to who aren't in the industry, but obviously need to use the industry. So you don't understand freight. But you need to use that because that's how you move your goods. Like I said to one of your clients, she gets your shit in the country.
19: 00
19: If they want to understand what it is like DHL ups, they move things from A to B, they get your shit in the country, or they send your shit overseas. That's if we want to be simple about very simple terms.
19: 11
19: Just really like knowing that but you know that that needs support as well. And then merit like marrying those two that the people outside the industry can feel included. And then the people within the industry can start to elevate and help those women outside and just bringing women together. Thank you, you summarized that so beautifully.
19: 33
19: I was in the car where we discussed.
19: 36
19: I even voice memory. You know, I would really encourage people if you're in that space. You and I basically have said we need to record all of our conversations because yes, when you're discussing you're bouncing ideas sometimes.
19: 48
19: Yeah, just throwing things back and forth. Then the way that it comes out, like you know, it's the most authentic, you know,
19: 57
19: conversation really there's
20: 00
20: Like you say, there's the backwards and forwards and the bouncing of ideas, and then the what ifs? And how can this work? And how can we make it better? And? Yeah, absolutely, I think we just need to have the recorder. And to see that you were there was like, you know,
20: 13
20: just not, it's what if it's all in your head, these these things, if she friends continue to live in your head, it never comes out. And that's, I think, something that we think we have to do everything alone. So, you know, credit to you for taking the leap and going to India and being open to it credit to you for being open to discussing it and talking about it. You know, obviously, yes, yeah, you've got the help of people around you, and you happen to be in the car with people who have the knowledge. The other person we have to credit in the car was, you know, bet Chappell who is a marketing strategist. So you know, when they're facilitating IQ, they're going, Oh, I'm bringing it all together. But that's, that's just kind of the awesomeness of bringing business women together. And that's something exciting for the trip, too, is that regardless of
20: 57
20: your what these women end up doing in terms of bringing in, you know, if they do end up finding their supplier, or you know, bringing the goods, or if that's not the right fit,
21: 06
21: then 100% and have a great time 100% going to experience a new culture and open their eyes to possibilities. And they're also going to spend time, you know, concentrated amount of time with other business women. Absolutely. And that's where the magic happens. Like you just said, it was just a couple hours in the car, or, or a few hours on the plane. And that's where magic happens. It's when you're really sitting there. And having that time and that space to think about what is important, or what matters to you, or what your brand vision is or what your end goals are. And then yeah, like you say, I had to be a little brave and speak up and say, Hey, I'm thinking about this. And what do you think? And yeah, it's absolutely about collaborating. And in the most authentic way possible, just have that conversation, just start. And you had opened your self up to this a bit more than that before. I mean, obviously, we've been working together, it was like two years almost by started 23, you came on.
22: 08
22: You came on the restaurant receiving kangaroo Valley. So you had had a taste of what a retreat is, in a retreat with me is and what that could be, you know, it is a big step and jumped in to India. So but that was amazing. But obviously, you've got that experience in some way looks like with me, then. Yeah, I mean, now you're on the other side of it, like what's it been like for you this right of
22: 34
22: organizing the retreat and promoting the retreat and preparing for it? Like, how's that been? For you give it is it that's a new space, right? It's an absolute Newspace. Look, I'm really thankful that I did your personal branding course.
22: 49
22: And now have a little bit more skills on
22: 54
22: how to share things or how to show up, I'm still learning, I'm human, I'm not perfect. So I'm still, you know, jumping online and posting and engaging and talking about things. But the process from the start about, you know, she writes in what I envisioned it to be, has pretty, you know, you've been there you you're helping me along the way you've run your own retreats, three or four, now you have a upcoming Gold Coast retreat on how to run retreats. And that's very exciting. And I guess I just jumped on a little earlier than that planning session. Like I don't have time to wait for that.
23: 34
23: Calendar, my Quick, quick. So I guess, you know,
23: 39
23: it's just been great to go, Hey, I'm thinking of this, this and this. And then we run through a checklist, we have a strategy meeting, we put things in place, there's goals and actions, and I love to tick boxes. So once all those things are done, things are flowing nicely. So
23: 55
23: from start to finish, or from where I am now, about a month out from our chief rights retreat. I'm feeling really calm, really excited. You know, we've got some promotional material going out.
24: 08
24: You said you're, you know, a travel partner for a really reputable India travel company. So we have the knowledge we have the experience we have our hotels, itinerary all booked it's just been so easy. And I couldn't recommend it to everyone like if it is an avenue you want to go down with like can jump on board, explore it don't have to do something International. Can we all just a day or two?
24: 36
24: sort of thinks about things for a little leg? Good I can't let's go
24: 41
24: sometimes and I said I said to you know I'm struggling it's actually what I said on our retreat like self care. What does self care look like and slightly different thing but you know, I said to James and Jade Warren and our group, you know, sometimes self care like going to bed on time last night, go to bed on time. Yes.
25: 00
25: Sanjay, getting into bed any day this week on time challenging? Yes. Going India? I'll do that. Yeah, we can plan that. Like, I'll just go to India for myself care or you know, I'll just be like, I need to do things for myself. I'll book India. But will I go to bed? No. You know, I think sometimes the small little things sometimes are harder than doing the big thing. Because you know, the big thing you have to go all in with three months. It's like, well, if I'm in I'm in, and I'm going to do everything I can. And I've been so impressed with, you know, yes. Like you said, it took you a long time. I think that the thing that what we realized is that the thing that took you a long time to post on shift rates, was it's not like you didn't know what to do. And we discuss what you could do we discuss what you could say we could discuss, you know, the formulaic thing of going this is you would post this style post, then you would do this, you use this photo, like we we discussed all of that. But without the intention, and without the reason and without the why. That's what was holding you back. Yeah. Yeah. I'm a big believer of not just, you know, putting stuff out there just for the sake of it. I really wanted it to be if I was going to be posting and engaging, I wanted it to be authentic. I wanted it to be real. I wanted it to be
26: 16
26: about passion and connection. And definitely everything that lights me up will hopefully light someone else up. So when I yeah, when we did she freights on that flight back from Singapore or it all flight back from India, it was ticking all the boxes, and like I said, before joining all the dots, and just yeah, something magic is happening. And I'm super excited. Yeah, and I love you know, it was bigger than you as well. I think that's sometimes the other thing that
26: 45
26: your wife really needs to be and it can be for you but it didn't tends to mean need to be bigger than you because it when it was about you that was I know that was holding you back to but then like you then you jumped in you go also what you having a photoshoot in December, I'll come to that came to a photoshoot. So you could get photos to promote it. I'm like,
27: 05
27: working on this for two years.
27: 08
27: But maybe that's sometimes it takes time. I think that's a great, yeah, it takes time to do these learnings and to to do this integration work to just go. You don't go from just being like, I don't know, I don't know anything about my brand. I don't know what to do. I mean, you've also been on a huge journey that we haven't really touched on it. I think it's a whole new other conversation. But you have rebranded your entire business last year. We did. And that was phenomenal. I guess that's the catalyst of what what has really got me on the on the roll.
27: 41
27: Coming back to business checks and networking and just having the right people around you at the right time, I've got to do a huge shout out to Tara from your one and only. And then through her connection. SHAN from wild spark.
27: 56
27: They are the two probably most important people in our whole pivot rebrand.
28: 05
28: They are just awesome human beings for a start. And then just their ideas and the way they could strategize and Shan with our brand voice and
28: 16
28: everything just was phenomenal and so awesome. And yeah, we had gone through a couple changes within the business, I had a business partner. We went our separate ways in 2020 and Myka. And I just felt like we needed to rebrand so that the business aligned with our values and without ethos, and
28: 41
28: the way we were with our customers wasn't what was showing on our digital footprints. So yeah, when I was in business chicks came across Tara started talking about things. And then yeah, last year, it all unfolded and we're so excited and so happy about it and really feel so connected to the brand
29: 03
29: is just yeah created these new waves of energy and how we freight forward and how our customers see us and how we interact with them. Like nothing's an issue. Everything is so
29: 17
29: such a joy to be in our team are really settled and we're just doing really well and I'm so excited about that. And I guess from all those good feelings, I mean, coming out of COVID and everything was so hectic. So having this really nice thing happened towards the end of last year really set us off for this year.
29: 36
29: And yeah, finding the purpose the foundation having those assets but having you know it's not sometimes the be all end all but uh, no, it can you know, I felt the same. I went through a rebrand in August and that's right. It can really hold you back to feel like yeah, when things don't look and feel when you've moved on from the look and feel. And so even kids not even looking feel it's it's you
30: 00
30: It's the vibe, it's the energy, don't bring that and you're in a new place and that visually it's not standing up, it does start to hold you back from sharing content and to reaching out. And you know, you've gone now into sponsorships and being present at events and, you know, showing up more in in networks and communities and having a brand identity that represents the actual who you are and the brand. And it's so much more than entire will guitar on to toggle about this, but that's so much more than colors and logos. And it's something that I had as well, you know, it's like people with personal brand, they just say, you know, we're gonna go get my hair done, I gotta go get photos. And it's the reason those photos came out so great was because you knew what you wanted to convey in the photos. You look amazing. Sure. But you knew what you wanted to convey. And so then that made the whole thing. So if you were very clear about what the photos were to be used for, it makes it so much easier than I just need some photos. And this is me and now make it happen to absolutely, absolutely when everything aligns and you feel passionate about what you're doing.
31: 09
31: Those photos were so easy. You asked me three years ago that I needed to do you know, brand photoshoot. And I was like, uh, hell no, there is no way I'm getting in front of a camera. There's no way that I'm, you know, posting on social media about what we do. Yeah, it was just definitely
31: 28
31: the rebrand is like a rebirth. Knowing who you are, knowing your values and morals and your goals, having goals and places also been a huge thing for us. Having something to focus on and like you say something that's bigger than us, has been, has been the anchor into where we are today. So I'm so grateful for the people around me, it's definitely about the support crew. I cannot go past thanking everybody that's in my circle. And I'm so excited about chief rights, honestly, because it's just bringing more good people together. And I'm so excited. The buzz and the attraction has been so great. And I'm just remembering, you know, it was on in kangaroo Valley at the rest of receive, there's like even foot some photos of us, you mean Tara sitting on the cat on the bench outside? Yeah, looking at like, literally, like with silly
32: 21
32: photos. But you know, like, seeing that, that come together. And sometimes you do need to be ready. I mean, sometimes you've got to leap and the net will appear. But that, you know, there's a sense of as well, you had to go through this to get to that. And I'm really you know, I'm about honoring the journey. And it's like, if we didn't have our meeting at the pool at Carlyle hotel, or the business of retraining. If we didn't, then you didn't say yes to working together. If we didn't do the brand builders program. If you didn't come to dinner one night, take Mike's invitation to come to dinner one night, so we could get to know each other more, you know, then didn't come on the retreat. We didn't do this. We didn't go to India, like you know, like there are steps in the way and it took saying yes. And believing and showing up. So both of us, but you did a lot of that.
33: 08
33: It takes that to get to the thing. It doesn't just I think there's so much of this, like you think things just appear? It's like no, this is what this is 10 years of business for you. This is you know, years of personal development work. This is going through challenges and you know, it's a journey. It is definitely navigating through all the challenges, celebrating the successes, acknowledging the people around you.
33: 34
33: Like you said, I have an a most amazing team. And that's, you know, the people around me my support network, my family, my friends, everybody, it just is small steps at a time to get to the bigger picture.
33: 48
33: Look, and it's not too late. So she friends, tell us a little bit when is it? Have you been getting involved? What do they do? I'll put all the links in the show notes, but you tell me Yeah. So she freights it's from the fifth of February to the fifth dance. Hopefully I got that all right.
34: 07
34: The links will be in the in the in the chat.
34: 11
34: Absolutely. And we are going to be going to Delhi Agra Jaipur which is the Golden Triangle in India a huge highlight is having the opportunity to go to the gift Fair, which is where a bunch of suppliers and
34: 26
34: vendors are going to be but the cool thing is Yeah, choosing Delhi and Jaipur in particular. You know, I was speaking to our colleague, Pankaj last night and in dishpan Jaipur is where a lot of the products that we see here a lot of the Indian ask things that you see the furniture and ornate things the fabrics, the jewelry, a stunning jewelry, the gemstones, it comes from Jaipur, so we can actually go like you said it's not going to the market. It's not going to the shop. We're going to go to the factories. We're going to go into the wholesalers, see how things are created you know, even the
35: 00
35: Uh, we didn't go last time we'll go this time to the, you know, the Taj Mahal, the marble and stone of the Taj Mahal, we can actually go to places where they still create things in the style that they created the Taj Mahal, like so you can get a bowl that's like the Taj Mahal.
35: 18
35: It's embarrassing. And yes, and also not to mention the fair, the fair itself is held by annually. This is the first one for this year. It's the 57th annual affair, this spring edition. And there's about 3200 exhibitors. So that's access to 3200 suppliers and manufacturers never been in one room yet. And it's over, I think six days, we'll be spending four of our 10 days there exploring all the products or the designs, there's going to be a lot of trade, designed shows, lots of things to see touch. Yeah, it's just going to be an amazing trip. So looking forward to it. And we'd love anybody who's listening to come on board. Amazing, Christine, it's been such an honor to be part of your journey. And I'm so excited for what's to come. I just yeah, 2024 is going to be next level. And it's been my privilege to spend all this time with you and learn that you've become a very different and I'm extremely grateful for you as well. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for everything. Thanks for all the support,
36: 27
36: you know, tagging me along or helping me tag along to things getting out of your comfort zone, taking the leap before the net was there. You know, just appreciate all the support. And yeah, it's been a phenomenal journey, and I can't wait to see where things go. It's only up from here. So yeah, let's do it. And you didn't put out and I did my best podcast for God.
