00: Do you want to live a life of freedom and adventure? Are you wanting more than the daily grind? Me too. Welcome to the Emma Lovell show, a place where we talk about living a life you love now, I'm your host, Emma Lovell, and my number one value is freedom. I've spent the last 14 years running a business and traveling the world. And now I take my husband and toddler along for the adventure to it's possible and I know you can create a life doing what you truly love as well. This podcast will inspire, motivate and encourage you to go after your dreams to create a life you love until you get now don't wait for a time and or someday in the future. I'll be sharing episodes weekly about how I harmonize business travel and self care. I'll also bring on incredible guests to share their journeys, wins the challenges and how they're creating a life they love. Let's jump in and get dreaming. This is a space for you to manifest a life you love.

01: 03

01: I would like to acknowledge and recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first peoples of this place now known as Australia. I am grateful for the continuing care of the land waterways and skies where I work live. Listen, learn and play. From here on you can bear country and from wherever you are listening, I pay my respects to the elders past and present.

01: 26

01: Hello, and welcome to today's podcast. I am making a short and sweet one today. I just want to say, are you okay?

01: 35

01: I got an email like this the other day from Jen Donovan with the header. Are you okay? It was her EDM, it was just emailed to everyone. But I wrote back. No, I'm not. And we ended up having a great chat, which was fantastic. And I had been telling other people that wasn't okay. But from my social media probably wouldn't have told. Because I don't really want to sit there and cry. And I don't really want to

02: 00

02: share negativity. But also, there's a fine line between how much you are willing to share and how much you need to protect yourself. And so honestly, where I was not okay is the financial pressure that I've been feeling of late

02: 19

02: and who was sort of a storm brewing. But it was coming off the back of having a low income month. And that happens sometimes in business. But I know that there's a lot of people out there, I spoke to a friend today who are feeling the pressure, whether you're in running a business, or whether you're unemployment is just is like a pressure cooker. And then the more that people worry about money, the more that it spirals. People hold on to their money tighter, they're not willing to invest in things, they're not willing to spend part with their cash, and the cycle perpetuates. I can't spend money because I'm not earning money. Well, that person's not earning money, so they can't spend money and so on and so forth.

02: 59

02: But you know, we do have to make those decisions sometimes and in really tighten things up. What was frustrating me was that I was, I don't feel that I can be accused of not trying of not being out there of not showing up of not creating offers of not telling people about things. Of course, there's times where I could be clearer and tell more people or reach out directly to send a message to every single person on my Facebook or every single person who might Instagram with my offer.

03: 29

03: You know, there are times where I know recently I hadn't talked about Sri Lanka as much because I had been in India and I have been watching my retreat days. Even so it didn't seem to matter. Things just were not transacting. Sorry, converting. And you know, even at one point in January, I had six people interested in my retreat day.

03: 51

03: And within a week, or 10 days, all six leads had gone. And so, you know, I had potentially this income, and then it was gone. And it was hard. It felt really, really tough. And there's only so many times that you can get up and fall down and get up and fall down and get up and fall down. The other thing that was has been straining me is I have an investment property, which is incredible, and a wonderful thing that I did in 2016 purchasing an investment property by myself. And I'm very proud of that. We also own our own apartment. So the way we did that my husband purchased it, and then we will boyfriend girlfriend at the time anyway. But you know, it's our home. And so we have two properties between us. But I got to the point where I decided we want to look at our future home. We want there's other things that we would like to be doing at this stage of life with a young child. We would like some more flexibility. So I decided last August that I'd sell it. I signed the contract in September. It was listed in October and come into February had no movement and I feel that I have been patient we have waited and I knew

05: 00

05: Don't wanted it to be a need or a desperation and because of things not really moving the business. It felt like it was. And it just felt like that week was not after knock after knock I got back from India, which is so incredible. I had the most amazing time with the sheet rates retreat. So proud of my client, Christine Cancun, she's about to launch another one, which is so exciting. We'll be announcing that very soon. I'll get it back on the podcast so we can share all about what that experience was like and what what's gonna come. There's all these great opportunities, there's all these great things on offer, but it still was just out of reach. So I was tired from all the travel, exhausted about facing, potentially doing thing, starting again on trying anything or creating something else.

05: 46

05: That's what's happened over the last few years with COVID. We've created pivoted change created pivoted changed. Even last September, I changed my business, I changed from a business name to Emma Lovell, I've had to wait to read on my website I've read on my podcast, you know, I just there comes a point where you're tired.

06: 09

06: No rest and receives my message. But it felt like it didn't feel like there was the opportunity to do that at the time either. And that's something needed to shift.

06: 19

06: Hello, my name is Kay toon. And I'm the founder of stay tuned a collection of digital education companies. I've had the pleasure of working with Emma Lovell on a number of different occasions. Not only will she emcee at my in person book launch event, she also helped me out on the virtual launch, too. I've enjoyed photoshoots with her and Jade, and she's an excellent speaker and presenter, I chose Emma because she is just so full of beans, she brings life energy and enjoyment to wherever and whatever she does. So she's highly recommended.

06: 54

06: But I've just done a live with a woman called Alpha Showalter who is, runs a podcast called money made simple and runs a business called money made simple. And we were actually both on a call

07: 07

07: in that same week about

07: 11

07: with business chicks. So I host the member made up calls the business cheeks. And we were on that call. And there were other people feeling like this too. And about three or four people sort of said, and there was lots of nods, and lots of you know, thankfully, someone did share and say that that's how they were feeling that income wasn't coming and things weren't selling, and they don't know what to do anymore. And they feel like they have tried and, you know, I don't I don't think telling me just to try harder is is the answer or just sometimes when you're in that place, just doing one more thing, it's it just feels too much. And obviously we need to take action.

07: 47

07: But we also need to acknowledge, and I know that there's times where I've just had to throw my hands up and say, I'm done, or I'm, I'm over it, I can't do it this way anymore. And acknowledging the reality, acknowledging what's going on acknowledging how you're feeling truly could be the thing that's needed to shift and toxic positivity.

08: 11

08: It's gonna be okay, it's fine. I'm trying this, why don't we do that data?

08: 16

08: You know, showing, it's online, it's not going to help. And I try to be as honest as I can, you know, but the thing you know, I've walked this fine line, as I said to Alpha like, of sharing and being vulnerable, but also, you know, protecting myself and what I'm going through and working through something when it's not an open wound.

08: 40

08: And so it's finding the people who can open up to it's finding the people who you can trust, find people who can hold space for you in that moment. And one of those wonderful people was Mr. Walkinshaw? We're both in Denise Duffield Thomas says money mindset program together in money bootcamp, which we're both in business together. And she's a few years ahead of me in life and you know, just was able to hold space and acknowledge and you know, for alpha to acknowledge what people were going through and to to offer something but not just go, you should do this, you should do that you can do this, you can do that just to acknowledge that yet is challenging, and that we're not always taught about personal finance, we're not always taught about business finance, we're not taught about how to manage both. And

09: 23

09: financial literacy is is a real issue. And where I feel frustrated is I have focused on this for the past few years I've really made it a focus to learn more about profit to structure my business in a way that is the best like the best for our family to change things there. I read books on it. I listen to podcasts on it, I talk to people about it, I've I pay an accountant, I pay a bookkeeper, I've paid pressing strategist. I have guests on my podcast to talk about money. I'm not afraid of talking about money. I enjoy talking about money. I love money.

10: 00

10: But it's a big thing in life. And when it's not flowing, and it's not coming. It's like, honestly, I feel in my chest right now I felt like I was drowning. I felt like I couldn't breathe. I felt like I couldn't sleep.

10: 17

10: I felt the pressure coming on me. I felt it was all my fault. I blame myself I'd shame blame, like, why isn't it look better? Why am I in this situation?

10: 27

10: Why am I here? Again, you know, there's a lot of sort of a pattern of feast or famine in business. And that was my first 10 years of my journey I've tried. I'm trying to shift that.

10: 37

10: And so, you know, things can change. Emma said to me, a lot can change in a week. And things have shifted my house, I've signed a contract. So see how that goes. I'm being very tentatively happy. signed a contract.

10: 54

10: I've had three people sign up Schlenker in a week. So there's only two spots left. Today, I've had a person sign up to my retreat day.

11: 04

11: I then offered to go to an event on Fridays, you know, a free ticket, which was lovely.

11: 11

11: And yeah, working on a new, this new retreat for Christine, which is very exciting and about to announce some more wonderful things of my own, but couldn't do anything from that place. I couldn't do anything more. And I all I needed was to have some time to stop to look at the situation to acknowledge my feelings to feel seen to feel heard to say yeah, this isn't that easy. And to say I'm not okay. Not okay. Right now, I'm not not okay forever, but I'm not okay, right now. So the reason I wanted to do this episode is just to say, if you're in this place, if your personal finance, your business, finance, both

11: 53

11: feeling challenging, right now, you're not alone. It's not easy.

12: 00

12: It's not simple all the time, it can be simple. Alpha, from money made simple will teach us that it can get better.

12: 10

12: But acknowledge where you're at,

12: 16

12: you know, find ways to find little bits of hope, my son, the other day found 20 cents on the beach, and we made such a big deal about it, and celebrated that 20 cents and really got him excited about the value of money. He put it in his little money box, he told us later about the money that he found. And we said you can find more, and you can make more and,

12: 40

12: you know, just celebrating those things. And when I did get the ticket celebrating the ticket, and when the first sale came in celebrating that when I signed the contract celebrating that, you know, celebrating each step forward.

12: 54

12: And taking one step at a time. And yeah, I just wanted to share that little bit with you all. And thank you for listening. Thank you for holding space for me.

13: 08

13: Yeah, you know, it's all work. It's all a work in progress. And

13: 17

13: we will get through. So what I commented on the post with Alpha was, if you're in that face, we see you, we feel you, you're not alone, you're gonna be okay. You've got this.

13: 33

13: And I know my dad often said, This, too shall pass like the way I wouldn't, you know, I will remember the feeling enough to not want it again. But I won't.

13: 42

13: The pain will reside and you will move through it. And yeah, anyway, that's that. So in a great place right now very excited, very motivated, putting things in place to support me over the next few months, and just wanting to be there as a support to other people as well. But you know, what I do offer it's, you know, if money's tight, it's probably not the greatest thing. But if you know, sometimes, if you're feeling like you really need support, I do offer our powers.

14: 17

14: If you're really in a tight spot to please do let me know I'd be happy to make an arrangement with you. Generally, those are upfront but if you want to do a payment plan or something like that, just to get support just to get help. I know that in one hour, I can help people to set up an offer to let you know I can dish it, but I can't take it sometimes but I can help you shift something so that you can start taking action again. And that's what I needed. I went to my Kinesiologist I called some friends. I took some time I went out and felt fabulous because I fortunately was doing my MC gig that night and I got to be dressed up and I got to have makeup on which was a blessing.

14: 52

14: And it shifted the energy

14: 55

14: shifted things so that I could think clearly see clearly

15: 00

15: Take some action towards making a change,

15: 07

15: doing, you know, one step at a time. So if that's something that you need, I do offer that that is exactly what we do in our power and one of my clients, Jane, you know, just giving her a different way to think about how she could put it offers together.

15: 21

15: You know that there were multiple ways it didn't have to look like one way so I can use my experience and I will be honest about what I've been through and not ever just go, you can do all this.

15: 32

15: It's got to be applicable to your situation and helpful in the moment. So that's an offer and practicing what I preach, putting my offer out there, putting that to you, it's going to help you.

15: 45

15: But please reach out if this has helped you. And if you're in that situation, I just don't leave me hanging here being alone. I know I'm not alone. And I know that you're not either. So thank you for listening. See you next time. Hear you next time. Goodbye.
