00: Do you want to live a life of freedom and adventure? Are you wanting more than the daily grind? Me too. Welcome to the Emma Lovell show, a place where we talk about living a life you love now, I'm your host, Emma Lovell, and my number one value is freedom. I've spent the last 14 years running a business and traveling the world. And now I take my husband and toddler along for the adventure to it's possible and I know you can create a life doing what you truly love as well. This podcast will inspire, motivate and encourage you to go after your dreams to create a life you love until you get now don't wait for a time and or someday in the future. I'll be sharing episodes weekly about how I harmonize business travel and self care. I'll also bring on incredible guests to share their journeys, wins the challenges and how they're creating a life they love. Let's jump in and get dreaming. This is a space for you to manifest a life you love.
01: 03
01: I would like to acknowledge and recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first peoples of this place now known as Australia. I am grateful for the continuing care of the land waterways and skies where I work live, listen, learn and play. From here on you can bear country and from wherever you are listening, I pay my respects to the elders past and present.
01: 26
01: Hello, lovely one. I am doing a short one today on a topic that I've wanted to talk about for a long time. It's called I love free stuff. Now the reason I'm doing a short one is because as you can probably hear I have a little bit of a croaky voice going on. It's not sore, but it's irritating.
01: 45
01: And I just started to record and had a coughing fit. So
01: 50
01: just a quick one today. But it's a topic I've wanted to do for a long time. And I was reminded of it the other day, when actually I was enjoying something for free. I was with a lovely lady Michelle, who had invited me to a networking morning with followed by a soak afterwards a bath house soak, where they have like steam room and sauna and I spoke baths and things like that. And she said I have a free ticket. So if you want to come and I was like shocked. And so this happens to me quite a lot. And I think it's because I am open to receiving. I've had troubles at times throughout my life of receiving with an open heart, even compliments I don't think we always receive which are free. But we don't always receive compliments very well. We're very like, No, you say, Oh, I love your dress. You say, Oh, I got it from here. You know, the correct response is Thank you. somebody's giving you the gift of a compliment. The you can initially at least initially say thank you.
02: 58
02: Especially here in Australia, I think we feel like it's tall, Poppy, with the tall poppy syndrome, we feel like, Oh, I'll be bragging on myself if I accept the compliment, when that's what a compliments for that is. So
03: 12
03: obviously, I need to practice my own method of rest, rest and receive. So I did start to learn this
03: 22
03: a couple years ago and have really taken on the importance of being able to receive and you know, but there's obviously a caveat on that free stuff too. You don't have to just because somebody gives you something doesn't mean you need to keep it. You can be discerning I've learnt that with Denise Duffield Thomas's money mindset things. We don't just need to hoard everything that somebody will keep forever or something just because someone gave it to us. But I think there's been times where I've been given free stuff over the years.
03: 51
03: And by free so I mean lovely like I mean jewelry, I mean candles, I mean
03: 59
03: you know goodie bags and events and all these things where you get all these items, your birthdays, and other times but I go to a lot of functions and you get given I don't know sometimes perfume or like, you know, it's not quite the Oscars, but I get I do get given stuff and I used to work in promotions industry and there will be I don't know, we get a lot of extra stuff.
04: 22
04: And then sometimes you have all this stuff and go oh, what do I do with it? So it's not just taking stuff for the sake of it. It's things that you want in being discerning on what free stuff you want. So some of the free stuff that I want is the tea bags in the Virgin lounge.
04: 42
04: I love
04: 43
04: the tea bags. I know they don't all just to be taken. But I do every time I go in there and I don't feel like a tea at the time but I take a couple with me.
04: 51
04: And later on I have my peppermint or my Lemongrass Tea. Lovely. I get so excited. in hotel rooms. I'm literally in a hotel room.
05: 00
05: Right now I'm looking over there and I can see teas and coffees. And though they're more of a sustainable hotel here, so they have the plunger soaps, they don't have the little ones.
05: 10
05: I do love that. I'm like, Hey, Allah take, have a tea while I'm here, and then I'll take the rest home.
05: 16
05: That's what I do. So anything from your free tea bag to
05: 24
05: $4,000 handbag. I love free stuff. So this episode sort of came about because I was talking to someone and it Densham when we said we were going to do it, we may we will do it again another time. And I'm sure there'll be other episodes where I remember all the things that I've had for free. But I just
05: 46
05: I was sort of saying how some people laugh at me. Because I take the free tea bags or I take the free you know, goodie bags or the gifts or
05: 58
05: I you know,
06: 00
06: I don't know why it's seen as maybe like cheapskate or something. I don't know. But then, but I love it. And I love gifts and love when someone gives me something. But like I said, I'm quite discerning like there are times where I say no, no stuff, please. I've had quite a few birthdays and Christmases where I've said no, I've got I feel like I've got enough stuff. I've got too much stuff. No, thank you, I don't want it.
06: 24
06: But when something is there, and it's given to you, or it's available to you, why are you not allowed to take it if you enjoy it? And so we were just sort of having a chat about how much we love free stuff.
06: 36
06: In all the things that we've been given for free or got for free. And in that free stuff. I'm saying that a lot. I mean, as well, I'm actually got quite a maybe this episode of up called something different are quite the knack for winning things. And we call it the level luck though my mum says that only my my dad and I have it sometimes my brother,
07: 01
07: which I don't think is true, but we have the level luck. And basically if we enter a raffle, we're probably going to win something. My dad used to go in into the like the the meat raffle or there was like a chuck raffle at the you know, chicken
07: 15
07: raffle at the local bowling club and dad would just come home with a took or
07: 23
07: tray of meat or whatever, like most weeks when he went to the pub on a Friday night. And then when you bomb was like we're not getting him. We've got enough food. I'm not getting your ham as well, that was so expensive. That tiny ham, she's like you're only going to eat a little bit of it. I'm not getting it so disappointed. But it was like, All right, whatever. Dad goes to the pub next night and comes home with a 40 would have been worth $50. But it was like these massive leg of pig it was like a huge ham. And he won it on a $5 raffle. So that's sort of something I've seen that my dad has manifested
08: 04
08: free things himself.
08: 07
08: And then so I love Yeah, I love entering competitions. And so people say I never win. I never win. And I'm like, I feel like if you sat here and really thought about it, there are things that you've won. Please don't tell me you've never won a thing.
08: 22
08: If you're like, Oh, yes, but I only won. I don't know, a spatula.
08: 27
08: Then you like you're telling the universe? I don't want it. No, thank you. And obviously I've done that to have sometimes I've said and I've tried to say
08: 36
08: no thank you to the gifts in the current era of I've got enough for now. Thank you.
08: 41
08: But you're saying the universe? I don't want to know thank you. I don't want to know when anything else because I don't want that. Whereas I'll say thank you. Thank you universe. Yes, please more. I'll either find a home for it, or we gift it Do you love it. I love free stuff, but also love re gifting. So, you know, something that doesn't really serve me happy to pass it on or no longer use for me. I sell things from my home often.
09: 08
09: Because yeah, then what comes around goes around. But in terms of things, I've won some of the most impressive things I've won.
09: 15
09: When I was in university, and sometimes it's entering awards or entering competitions or whatever. Like you can say I just got free stuff, but I'm like, Yeah, but I've got free stuff because I did think so in university, I was nominated or better if I entered or if nominated I think was just nominated for event A for volunteer of the year. So I volunteered running a club, and I won $1,000 prize cash prize for being the Volunteer of the Year, which was incredible. I $1,000 on radio. I rang up and I had to go into the studio. We had to go out and find a singer or a busker. I had to go back to college. I
10: 00
10: Here at Studio, we actually made this busker wrote a song together. We changed the lyrics to a song and then he sang that to Jack here. And I won $1,000 I've won many a concert ticket.
10: 16
10: One special nights like today, FM would host a rooftop party
10: 22
10: with a bunch of stars and you get food and drink and you get free entertainment. So I've won tickets to those sorts of things. I won a ski trip on radio as well. I did a 25 Words or Less competition, and are waiting for me and a friend to go on a weekend away to Falls Creek snow trip with a bunch of other people who paid for all of our food or about skiing or their ski hire if we needed it for a whole weekend. So I think that was probably about at least 2000 Maybe 3000 per person. They want a $6,000 prize
10: 55
10: 25 words or less that was all
10: 59
10: I have won.
11: 02
11: In the photo competition prize. Like I said, I want a $4,000 handbag which a lot of people quite a lot of people knew about and saw. I was at an event and six body had a handbag that they purchased. And
11: 17
11: it was a St Louis Vuitton handbag, and they said if you take a photo
11: 22
11: without stand at this event, and upload it, and tag us, you're in the competition. So I did that. I believe it was mine. That night, I was announced as the winner on both $1,140 back. Um, what else have I won? I won.
11: 42
11: I was one of eight finalists in a Ben and Jerry's competition, I won a iPhone worth $1,000, I think to get around the $1,000 mark, and
11: 54
11: had to be a flavor campaigner. And it's pretty funny because to know it was free cone day on vendor they didn't know but we walked past the Ben and Jerry's shop and there was all this craziness going on. And I was like I've actually hosted a free cone a free scoop day. So we got to host a free scoop day I hosted it at my university. My flavor was half baked, which was vanilla chocolate ice cream with brownie and cookie dough. And it was delicious. And I got to give out lots of free ice cream and when my phone but I didn't win the overall competition, which would have been a trip to Ben and Jerry's anywhere in the world. But it was pretty incredible process and to be part of a PR and social media campaign like that as a winner as a competition winner. What else am I one? I have 101 the other day a manifesting kit from my from Jonas Cygnar, who runs the company where I have my vase from Kaya services into the competition on her Instagram. I want a calendar and a journal and a little manifesting books. So we lose gonna be more to come.
13: 05
13: But yeah, I also get a lot of people offering me things so they know that I'm someone who says yes, and they know that I'm someone who opens is open to receiving. And so I get invited. Just the other week I got invited to Taylor Swift to be in a corporate box. I already had tickets for another night and couldn't fly down. But I said any other time you get that opportunity. Please think of me Absolutely. I'm that sort of person who would buy down and generally income but I already had tickets with my friend.
13: 36
13: What else have I won. So I need more episodes because it's hard to remember I could have written all these down, but it's pretty fun just to think about.
13: 44
13: My name is Emma Walkinshaw. I'm a transformational coach, I run the embody confidence program. I'm an author and I also run retreats for women here in Australia. And now internationally. Thanks to Emma Lovell, Emma has been absolutely phenomenal in planning my up and coming retreat to India. She has helped me with the itinerary, the transportation, the hotels, the whole flow of the retreat. Am I am so grateful. I'm also grateful because this retreat is profitable. And that is a wonderful feeling. I also thank Emma for spending the day with her learning about retreats, you've opened my eyes to what's possible, and I'm so excited for the future. Emma, thank you
14: 32
14: have some free sleep, that would be great.
14: 35
14: I also manifest through and get free stuff through my husband. So we had this one time again. There's something about the $1,000 mark, we need to stop paying $10,000 And I very much have I'm gonna say it out loud. We'll put it out here. I do have a vision that one day I win a car. There's actually a lot of car competitions. I've seen them around for years of want to win a car and especially the real spare car. So if you know
15: 00
15: Car competitions, let me know that I have, it's a red car, even though now we've bought a red car. So I don't know if I've sort of ticked that one off, but I think you have to really get clear on the vision when you're manifesting. So it's going to be a red car.
15: 14
15: I think it's gonna be like in the it's gonna be like a Hyundai i 30 or something like that. It's going to be like sort of a, you know, mid range.
15: 22
15: Just as good car classic sort of gear standard. runabout car?
15: 29
15: Probably a hatchback. And yeah, so if you, you know, hear of any I mean, look, I'm open to winning a Lamborghini or whatever, but slightly impractical. Like, are we in a more practical car? Jeeps? I love Jeeps? We can win a jeep?
15: 45
15: Yeah. So there's putting it out there. But we went to Las Vegas.
15: 51
15: In
15: 53
15: you know, and then you sometimes yes, you have to be in it to win it. You have to pay money to win. But we went to Vegas, and on the way there I thought, me and my husband I thought we I'm going to wouldn't be cool if I won $1,000 Wouldn't it be cool? If this is a journal prompt I use wouldn't it be cool if
16: 11
16: and I went, ah, you know, whatever. Anyway, we were on a pins and bucks. So it's like my husband went off with his group. And I went off with the girls group, the bachelor and the bachelorettes. Anyway, I went, we went to it to be messaging each other for the few days.
16: 28
16: And so I
16: 30
16: went on a playdate slot machine. So not advocating for gambling, and all those sorts of things. But I responsibly decided to play a slot machine in Vegas, with like, however much a couple of 20 bucks or something, and I won $10. And so you get a little printed slip. And I sent this slip to my husband, because I want to own a whale machine. And he works with animal sea animals. And I was like, Look, I want $10. And he sends me back a photo of a fan of $100 bills.
17: 00
17: And I was like, what is that? That's not That's not real, like it's the other guy's money or something that the boys will put money in. He's just teasing me. And he didn't write back as it. Answer me. And he's like, No, I want it. And I was like, what, like, put it in the safe like a Taos read. Like what. And what had happened is he's had he had been on the top of the table for footy competition is friend said, anyone who's on the top of the table, I'll give you some money to give you a chip to play in Vegas. So it gives him this $30 Chip. He's like, you're at the top of the table. He's $30 Chip, play the roulette. The map doesn't play roulette doesn't know how to play roulette, like, whatever. So he just picks a number he puts puts it on eight, because that's his but his ADA says birth he puts his lucky number. The guy's like, do you really want to put it all on one numbers? Like, yeah, he's like, do you really wanna put it on one number? He's like, Yeah, I don't care. Yeah, he's just whatever. You're the guy goes.
18: 00
18: Eight. And one is actually like $1,300. So it was like 1000 us it was 1300 Australian.
18: 11
18: So I manifested that
18: 14
18: with anyone, so maybe my husband's gonna win the red card? I don't know. But
18: 18
18: anyway, I just think I think you put it out there and if you but if you say I'm not a winner, I don't win things. You might not win things. If you don't buy tickets if you don't go in it again. I'm not advocating for gambling. He was given a chip. He played it. Has he played roulette since no that was
18: 35
18: six years ago.
18: 37
18: Maybe you should but we enter competitions we enter you know, we tag each other in things on Instagram, we if I see like Pacific fair, my local shopping center, they do a competition or like enter it. A lot of them are just enter your name and email or follow us or sign up for our email. Like there's some really easy ones that you can enter to win free stuff. And sometimes it's really good stuff and stuff that you need. I didn't necessarily need a handbag was a lovely thing to when I'm looking at a handbag right now that I got given for my birthday.
19: 11
19: So my girlfriends they know that I love pemegang clothes or I don't mind me down clothes. So they're finished with an outfit and they go hey, do you want my outfit? Yes, I do. I do want to not pay for clothes.
19: 23
19: And then because I'm able to then x is something that's really helped with my travel a lot because I love free stuff. And I'm able to accept briefings. I'm able to then keep more of my money to do what I want with
19: 38
19: because I don't have to go and buy all these things. You know.
19: 42
19: I haven't bought perfume for ages because I got given one recently. It was given lipsticks I don't find a lipstick.
19: 50
19: But also when I've traveled with the other free thing that I get is free accommodation.
19: 54
19: I get then if I stay with a friend and they feed me that's free.
20: 00
20: Then they take me somewhere, they drive me somewhere that's free. It's money that I didn't have to spend. And I'm just as willing to do it for someone else. That's the thing. If someone comes here, I want to make sure that I take care of them too. And I want to pay for that fatality.
20: 16
20: But why don't we use the things that we already have in share. And so I am very willing, and very excited by free stuff. And sometimes I feel like as I, my business grows, and as my income grows, and as my wealth grows, I won't be as excited in the future about free stuff, or
20: 36
20: I don't want to ever lose the excitement of walking into a hotel room be like, Oh, my gosh, like a little bottle, or, Oh, they gave us a gift, or there's a welcome gift at a retreat, or a welcome gift at a conference. And it was so thoughtful.
20: 51
20: I love that business chicks do that. So well surprise and delight with these wonderful gifts. I love that. And I don't ever want to be not excited by that. And I don't want to ever, if someone offers me a free place to stay or
21: 08
21: gives me a perk, I don't want to ever be not excited about that. And so I celebrate the free tea bags, and the unsustainable little bottles of shampoo. And
21: 20
21: I don't know if somebody gives me something for free, especially something that I need. I also accept free services. So people have given me free if they're giving it freely from their heart. The worst thing you can do someone tries to buy you lunch, or says here, I want to do this thing for you.
21: 36
21: And you say no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
21: 40
21: You're denying them the pleasure of gifting to you.
21: 44
21: I know this is oxymoronic because my mom gets upset me because I do my no gifting policy. And I say no gifts, knowing full well that at least my mother will still buy gifts, somebody will break the rules and buy gifts. I'm trying to minimize I'm not talking about I don't want to access and I don't want to just give stuff for free. And it's something that I've learned with my retreats I like to give gifts to, but I don't give a lot of stuff. I give a couple of beautiful quality things or thoughtful items that they can actually use. That will be helpful. And
22: 17
22: I think that's, that's okay, so here's the bit of a tangent, but I just want to explain it's 1111 Make a wish. I wish for more free stuff.
22: 27
22: I wish for my car, I wish to win my red car.
22: 32
22: It's okay to want it's okay to wish it's okay to dream. It's okay to ask. It's okay to receive any someone's give me something for free. Oh, my goodness, I'm sure you spend enough money, just as I do. I am very willing to spend money and to do things. But when somebody is offering something or something is complimentary, and it's gifted, and it's there for free, take it and enjoy it and celebrate it. I'm sure I'll remember many other times that I've been I can't even say I've won meet raffles and things like that, raffle prizes, and etc. I'm sure there are many things that you've won. So unlike this episode that I obviously didn't prepare for, write a list of the things that you've won. Even if it's a little things or the things that you've been gifted, that might not be winning competitions. It might be the things that you've been gifted and you can go birthdays and weddings and things don't count. Okay, but I'm sure you've attended an event and they've had a free snack. Or you get a free coffee on the plane that I know you paid $100 of the ticket but anything that's sort of a bonus it's it's lovely to acknowledge and recognize that and say yes please more of this. Yes please more free stuff that I want. Yes, please more free stuff that that will help me in my life. Yes, please. More free stuffs that this good and sustainable and quality.
23: 58
